The Yard Master is responsible for coordinating activities of the Yard Switchers. The Yard Master also works in the yard and is in coordination with warehouse managers and/or dispatchers.
Duties and Responsibilities- Oversee and coordinate the activities in the yard/shuttle driver activity.
- Instruct yard switchers where to move trailers to fit the planned configuration or to load freight.
- Ensure yard capacity is maintained.
- Review schedules to match building needs.
- Communicate with building managers on trailer pool.
- Arrange for defective trailers to be removed for repairs.
- Remain informed about trailer content, trailer pool and yard activities.
- Review and utilize daily and/or weekly reports to maximize productivity.
- Be informed and implement DOT rules and regulation.
- Be informed and implement company rules and operation procedures.
- Ensure company assets are secured and well maintained.
- Provide reporting on trailer pool and yard activities directly to customer 2x/day.
- Enter trailer pool and yard activity information into customer web-based portal.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma/GED preferred.
- 1 year of relevant experience.
- Ability to work well with people and maintain good relations with co-workers and customers in a professional manner.
- Ability to work in an organized and independent manner.
- Ability to prioritize work assignments and manage work time effectively.
- Manual Handling:
Occasional lifting, moving, and carrying of equipment and supplies, potentially up to 50 pounds, for setup or adjustment. - Environmental Conditions:
Working outdoors in various weather conditions, overseeing yard operations, and ensuring compliance with safety standards. - Climbing and Reaching:
Use of ladders and reaching for equipment or materials as needed for maintenance or operational tasks. - High Alertness:
Maintaining high levels of concentration and situational awareness to coordinate movements of vehicles, equipment, and personnel.
