Job Summary
The Child & Family Therapist will provide short- and long-term interventions with children, teens, and caregivers aimed at alleviating trauma symptoms and to enhance caregiver skills. Treatment will focus on enhancing child-caregiver communication and teaching effective coping skills to manage overwhelming emotions. The therapist will assist in identifying the needs of the family and coordinate with the Family Advocates to enhance family’s access to community resources and ongoing supports as needed.
Therapist will serve as consultant to the multidisciplinary team and staff regarding child trauma.
1. Master’s degree in Counseling, Psychology or Social Work and must be licensed or working towards licensure in the state of Missouri.
Preference will be given to:
- 1. Two years’ experience working with children who have been abused or neglected, with an emphasis on child sexual trauma is preferred.
- 2. Certification/Completion 40 contact hours in training and consultation calls to deliver evidence-supported mental health treatment to children who have experienced trauma from abuse.(Examples include: TF-CBT, PCIT, AF-CBT, CFTSI, EMDR.)

Essential Job Functions- Provide individual trauma-focused therapy to children and to the non-offending family members
- Trauma-specific assessment of traumatic events and abuse-related trauma symptoms to determine need for treatment
- Evidence-based assessment to inform treatment
- Individualized treatment plan based on assessments that are periodically reassessed
- Individualized evidence-supported treatment appropriate for the child clients and other family members
- Child and Caregiver engagement in treatment when necessary
- Monitoring trauma symptom reduction
- Provide group/family therapy
- Make appropriate referrals based on client needs to other human service agencies
- Complete and maintain all clinical and administrative records pertaining to clients
- Obtain at least 8 hrs. continuing education annually in the field of child abuse, trauma, clinical practice and/or cultural applications
- Attend/testify Court proceedings as requested/subpoenaed
- Attend and actively participate in MDT case review; share relevant information while protecting confidentiality and mental health professional’s legal and ethical requirements
- Serve as the clinical consultant to the MDT regarding child trauma and evidence-based treatment
Design and implement a teletherapy program aimed at increasing accessibility and continuity of trauma‑informed therapeutic services.
Special Requirements and Skills- Satisfactory criminal background investigation and a CA/N screening as a condition of employment/contract
- Basic computer skills
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and stand or walk for more than 50% of the day
- Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines
- Ability to function harmoniously in a busy workplace as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Must acknowledge and adhere to the confidentiality policy and procedures and must adhere strictly to the highest professional ethics, confidentiality, discretion, and judgment
- Excellent verbal and nonverbal skills to communicate with children, families, staff, interns, volunteers, multidisciplinary team members, and the public
- Understanding of child development ages birth to 18 years
- Understanding of complex family dynamics in child abuse
- Knowledge of current services for abused children in Central Missouri
- Ability to work effectively in crisis situations
- Ability and willingness to work as a team member with Child Safe staff, volunteers, interns and MDT members
- Willingness to accommodate limited travel, and work nights, evenings, weekends, and holidays if necessary
