The Dump Truck driver will safely operate a dump truck, with or without a trailer, at an assigned location and deliver collected material to landfill.
- Operate the dump truck and on‑board hydraulic systems.
- Ensure each load is secure by checking that tarps are closed properly and that no loose material is visible.
- Complete pre‑trip and post‑trip safety lane inspections, daily truck reports, route sheets, and other documentation as requested by a supervisor.
- Communicate vehicle mechanical problems to a mechanic and supervisor immediately.
- Maintain route quality standards as predetermined by management.
- Operate truck and equipment using prescribed techniques to prevent driver‑induced mechanical failures.
- Follow all safety standards, equipment checks and precautions in the performance of all duties.
- Comply with all federal, state/provincial, local, and company rules on safety and vehicle operation.
- Maintain a clean vehicle by cleaning the cab interior and exterior.
- Ensure that all required personal protective equipment is worn at all times (e.g., gloves, reflective vest, safety glasses, work boots).
- Report all accidents or incidents to supervisors immediately.
- Exhibit a professional demeanor, appearance, and manner at all times when meeting customers or the general public while on route or in uniform.
- Maintain accurate records of services performed.
- Work closely with a supervisor to improve routing efficiencies.
- Attend safety and branch meetings.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or requested by management.
- May be required to work overtime.
- High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) desired.
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) – ClassB minimum.
- One (1) year of satisfactory driving experience of commercial vehicles preferred.
- Must be able to meet relevant criteria for safety‑sensitive functions according to company standards.
- Must demonstrate the ability to safely drive the truck and operate the equipment.
- Ability to operate any vehicle or equipment necessary to perform the job.
- Ability to communicate in writing and verbally with others.
- Ability to write simple reports and correspondence such as pre‑ and post‑trip inspections, accident reports, and daily paperwork.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple correspondence and instructions such as company policies and procedures.
- Ability to follow instructions and work under limited supervision.
- Skill and experience in backing up the trailer.
- Knowledge of air brakes on a tractor‑trailer.
- Ability to drive a vehicle that carries up to 80000lbs or 40tons.
- Ability to stand, walk, use hands and fingers, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, climb, balance, taste, and smell.
- Visual requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus during vehicle maneuvering.
- Ability to regularly lift or move up to 10lb, frequently lift or move up to 25lb, and occasionally lift or move up to 50lb manually.
- Sitting is required 75% of the time while driving.
- Ability to work in usually loud conditions.
- Frequently exposed to loud noise, humidity, rainy or stormy weather, extreme hot and cold temperatures (depending on season).
- Exposure to moving mechanical parts, vibration, toxic and caustic chemicals, fumes, and airborne particles.
- Work is outdoors up to 100% of the time.
- Routes away from branch location on a continuous basis throughout the day.
- Occasional work in high or precarious places.
- Constant motor vehicle traffic conditions.
- Environment is usually loud.
