REPORTS TO:

Building Principal

The Elementary Music Teacher is the faculty position dedicated to supporting the middle school visual arts program grades 6-8. The teacher is guided by the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and district standards and requirements. The Elementary Music Teacher reports to the principal, and may direct a Teaching Assistant (Paraprofessional), if one is assigned to the classroom.

QUALIFICATIONS

To be considered qualified for this position, candidates must have the following:

* Preferred license or eligible for licensure in Music:
Vocal/Instrumental/General, All Levels by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

* Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, with children and adults.

* Commitment to remain current in content knowledge and teaching strategies.

* Ability to relate well with students, colleagues, parents, and staff.

RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to:

* Provides learning experiences in visual arts, guided by the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and district standards and requirements, while creating an environment that is conducive to student learning and involvement. Monitors students' understanding of the curriculum effectively and adjusts instruction, materials, or assessments when appropriate.

* Evaluates, tries innovative approaches, and refines instructional strategies, including the effective use of technologies available to teachers, to increase student learning, involvement, and confidence to learn.

* Demonstrates appreciation for and sensitivity to, the diversity among individuals and strives to ensure equitable opportunities for student learning.

* Implements teaching strategies that support and comply with students' IEPs and 504 plans.

* Maintains and improves professional competence through attendance at professional development events, and by self-generated activities that meet district expectations and the requirements for recertification.

* Shares responsibility for accomplishing the goals and priorities of his/her grade/team/department, building and school district, attending all faculty and committee meetings as required, and district-wide committees as needed.

* Other duties as required by the building principal.
