Locations: Mildred H. Aitken Elementary School and George R. Martin Elementary School

Reports To: Building Principal
The Elementary Teacher provides learning experiences in language arts, social studies, reading, mathematics, science, art, physical education, and music to students, guided by the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and district standards and requirements. The Elementary Teacher reports to the principal, and may direct a Teaching Assistant (Paraprofessional), if one is assigned to the classroom.
Qualifications- Licensed, or eligible for licensure in Elementary, Levels 1-6 and/or Early Childhood:
Teacher of Students With and Without Disabilities PreK-2 and/or Early Childhood:
Teacher of Students With and Without Disabilities PreK-3 by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. - Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, with children and adults.
- Commitment to remain current in content knowledge and teaching strategies.
- Ability to relate well with students, colleagues, parents, and staff.
- Provides learning experiences in language arts, social studies, reading, mathematics, science, art, physical education, and music to students, guided by the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and district standards and requirements, while creating an environment that is conducive to student learning and involvement. Monitors students' understanding of the curriculum effectively and adjusts instruction, materials, or assessments when appropriate.
- Implements, evaluates and refines instructional practice.
- Effectively and creatively uses technology to engage students in learning and improve student competence and confidence.
- Demonstrates appreciation for and sensitivity to, the diversity among individuals and strives to ensure equitable opportunities for student learning.
- Maintains and improves professional competence through attendance at professional development events, and by self-generated activities that meet district expectations and the requirements for re-certification.
- Shares responsibility for accomplishing the goals and priorities of his/her grade/team/department, building and school district, attending all faculty and committee meetings as required, and district-wide committees as needed.
- Other duties, as assigned according to the SEA contract.
