Job Description

TITLE: High School Physics Teacher, Long-Term Substitute

TYPE OF POSITION: Full time (1.0);  school year

START DATE: August 25, 2026

DURATION: Until the end of the  school year

LOCATION: Seekonk High School

COMPENSATION: At scale (likely $282.43 per day Bachelor's Step 1 OR $319.62 per day Master's Step
1)

AREA OF CONSIDERATION: All qualified candidates

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

The Physics Teacher provides learning experiences in Physics, guided by the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and district standards and requirements.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS To be considered qualified for this position, candidates must minimally have the following:

  • Licensed, or eligible for licensure in Physics (8-12) by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, preferred
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, with children and adults.
  • Commitment to remain current in content knowledge and teaching strategies.
  • Ability to relate well with students, colleagues, parents, and staff.
  • Experience in teaching honors and computer science courses a plus.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree required;
    Master’s Degree preferred
  • Valid license from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education in Physics 8-12 is Required.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, with students and adults.
  • Commitment to remain current in content knowledge and teaching strategies.
  • Ability to relate well with students, colleagues, parents, and staff.
  • Experience in teaching Honors or Advanced Placement courses is a plus.
  • Experience teaching Project Lead The Way is also preferred.
Skills and Responsibilities
  • Planning and implementing standards-based lessons with clear objectives.
  • Designing and demonstrating differentiated instruction to meet the needs of all students. (Modify, scaffold, etc. for Special Education and English Language Learners)
  • Using a variety of formal and informal assessments to accurately measure student progress toward mastery of grade-level standards and to modify further instruction.
  • Providing a motivating and stimulating, safe and supportive learning environment.
  • Adapting Science lessons for individual, small group, and remedial instruction to meet the needs of identified students or subgroups of students.
  • Developing and maintaining pupil-teacher relationships conducive to effective teaching and learning as well as fostering a safe environment in which students can thrive.
  • Maintaining a growth mindset.
  • Demonstrates understanding of a variety of cultures including their values, traditions, as well as communication styles, and incorporates that knowledge into their instruction.
  • Establishing and maintaining standards and expectations of student behavior.
  • Participating in school-wide and department-wide professional development activities.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with students, parents, staff and the community, including collaborating with colleagues on curriculum, lesson planning and assessment design.
  • Proficient use of instructional technology to support student learning in and out of the classroom.
  • Other duties, as assigned according to the SEA contract.
