Job Description

I.Demonstrates currency in the curriculum.
a.Demonstrates a working knowledge of the core curriculum for Special Education in alignment with Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks
b.Keeps current in the various curricular and special education fields and applies that knowledge to the instructional program.
c.Contributes to the ongoing evaluation of the curriculum.
II.Conducts effective planning and assessment of curriculum and instruction
a.Participate in student-centered team meetings to develop individualized programming for students
b.Collaborate with related service providers to plan, prepare, and implement all aspects of each student’s educational goals and objectives according to their IEPs.
c.Effectively plans instruction and assessment for students. Adjusts instruction, materials, or assessments when appropriate.
d.Effectively plans, facilitates, and participates in inclusion activities throughout the host school and within the community.
III.Manages the classroom environments and creates atmospheres that are positive for student learning and involvement.
a.Classroom environments include all SCEC classrooms as well as any class or activity SCEC students are included in with the host school.
b.Becomes trained in Collaborative Problem Solving and utilizes strategies in class
IV. Delivers instruction effectively.
a.The teacher makes learning goals clear and uses appropriate instructional techniques.
b.The teacher evaluates, tries innovative approaches, and refines strategies, including the effective use of technologies, to increase student learning and confidence to learn.
V. Promotes and communicates high standards and expectations for student achievement.
a. Provide guidance and oversee a learning team of paraprofessionals, Related Service Providers and Therapists.
b. Ability to work as a positive, productive member of the instructional team to maximize student outcomes and independence
VI. Promotes equity and appreciation of diversity and strives to ensure equitable opportunities for student learning.
a.The teacher demonstrates an appreciation for and sensitivity to the diversity among individuals.
VII. Fulfills all professional responsibilities
a.Cooperates in interactions with parents/guardians, including but not limited to actively communicating with families
b.Write reports, develops IEPs, maintains transition related data collection employing research-based best practice strategies to demonstrate student progress and adjust student goals
c.Work with expert consultants to develop effective support systems for students
d.Shares responsibility with all program leaders for accomplishing the goals and priorities of South Coast Educational Collaborative
e.Exercises reflection on teaching and education and embraces the concept of continuous learning.

Salary: $60,250 to $105,044 Per Year

Welcome to Seekonk North Middle School 6-8

Seekonk North K-8 School, an approved public special education day school, provides comprehensive educational services to children in grades Kindergarten through eight who are unable to successfully participate in the public school setting at this time. Seekonk North K-8 offers two curricular strands, either a 205 day program or a 220 day program, each serving a unique population of students.
205 – Day Programs The 205 day programs are for students with social-emotional and behavioral challenges. Our goal is to affect academic and social-emotional growth through specialized counseling, academic instruction and brain-based therapeutic supports so that students will successfully transition to a less restrictive educational setting. These nine classrooms have an average enrollment of 8-10 students and a 1:3 staff-to-student ratio.
