Primary

Purpose:

To obtain the required student teaching/clinical teaching experience for completion of program requirements by a four-year college, university or an alternative certification program.

Qualifications:

  • Education/Certification:

    Must be currently enrolled in a university educator preparation program
  • Alternative Certification Program candidates are only allowed opportunities in critical need areas
  • Special Knowledge/

    Skills:

    Knowledge of subjects assigned
  • General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
  • Ability to adjust and be flexible to a multitude of situations as they occur
  • Ability to apply principles in logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems
  • Ability to concentrate, interpret policy and procedures, reason, understand verbal instructions, analyze, differentiate, memorize, read, coordinate, compile, compute, instruct, and maintain emotional control
  • Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills

Major

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Under the guidance of a mentor/cooperating teacher, develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements in student learning styles
  • Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles
  • Present subject matter according to the guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, Board Policies and Administrative Regulations
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned
  • Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities
  • Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process
  • Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits
  • Be a positive role model for students and support the mission of Seguin Independent School District while following the Code of Ethics and Standard Practices for Texas Educators
  • Create a classroom environment conductive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social and emotional development of students
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and Student/Parent Handbook
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
  • Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, student parents and community members
  • Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly
  • Maintain confidentiality of information
  • Report to campus on scheduled days and times that are agreed upon by principal, mentor/cooperating teacher. University and/or preparation program

    Prolonged standing or sitting
  • Frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, twisting and repetitive computer work with hand and wrist
  • Frequent walking
  • Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may lift and move text books and classroom equipment
  • May work inside or work outside, as well as inside your home or another location other than a school building
  • Regular exposure to noise

Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated by the cooperating teacher and the university supervisor.
