The Bluebonnet Trails Community Services (BTCS) Jail Based Competency Restoration (JBCR) Rehabilitation Specialist is responsible for providing outstanding person-centered case management services as part of the JBCR Team to adults who have been deemed incompetent to stand trial by the Court. The Rehabilitation Specialist is one member of a multidisciplinary treatment team offering psychiatric evaluation, medication evaluation and management, cognitive behavior therapy, curriculum-based competency restoration education, motivational interviewing and treatment planning in a jail-setting.

The JBCR Rehabilitation Specialist regularly meets with individuals in the Williamson County jail and court to provide cases. management, skills training, psychosocial rehabilitative services and competency restoration. Services are intended to stabilize mental health symptoms, reduce risk of recidivism, increase the individual’s awareness of and participation with community and natural supports, develop self-advocacy, and assist with the process related to competency restoration.

A high level of detailed electronic documentation is required and adherence to company and state guidelines is expected. A minimum of 55% of hours worked are required to be face-to-face, billable services.

The person in this position must possess a passion and aptitude for working with individuals who have chronic and severe mental health needs and are involved in the criminal justice system. Knowledge of psychotherapeutic medications, intensive case management functions, substance use treatment, crisis services, community resources, and evidence-based practices in mental health and criminal justice systems are required. This position necessitates innovative thinking, patience, resiliency, skills in advocacy, service coordination, mental health assessment and evaluation, collaborative person-centered recovery planning and dual-diagnosis treatment.

The person in this position will effectively work independently and on a team, prioritize needs during crisis situations, engage in regular meetings and training opportunities.

Hourly Salary: $ 23.63

  • $1.00/hour – 2 years previous experience in a similar position
  • $1.00/hour – Advanced or Associate Licensure
  • $0.50 – LCDC Licensure
  • Up to $4.0/hour – BTCS Tenure

Minimum Qualifications:

A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum number of hours that is equivalent to a major in psychology, social work, medicine, nursing, rehabilitation, counseling, sociology, human growth and development, physician assistant, gerontology, special education, educational psychology, early childhood education/intervention.

* If degree is not in a Human Services field, a minimum of 24 college credits in a Human Services field are required.

Education and experience in behavioral healthcare, intensive community treatment, and the criminal justice system.

Must have a valid Texas Driver's License, meet Bluebonnet Trails Community Services driving requirements, and maintain approved driving status throughout employment.

Must pass relevant background checks to work inside the jail

Bluebonnet Trails Community Services as a recipient of Federal Transit Administration (FTA) grant dollars either directly from FTA or through the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), will comply with the Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (42 U.S.C. 2000d), the U.S. Department of Transportation implementing regulations, FTA Circular 4702.lB, and TxDOT PTN requirements as specified in Master Grant Agreement, and State Management Plan.
