Lead CNC Machinist

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Lead CNC Machinist to join our dynamic manufacturing team. In this pivotal role, you will oversee the setup, programming, and operation of CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines, ensuring precision and efficiency in metal machining processes. As a leader on the shop floor, you will guide a team of machinists, optimize machining workflows, and uphold the highest standards of quality.
Your expertise in CNC programming, mechanical blueprint interpretation, and machining tools will drive continuous improvement and excellence in our manufacturing operations. Responsibilities:
- Lead the setup and calibration of CNC lathes and milling machines, including machine alignment, tooling installation, and parameter adjustments to meet production specifications.
- Develop and modify CNC programs using G-code, M-code, CAM software, and Fanuc controls to optimize machining processes.
- Interpret complex mechanical blueprints and technical drawings accurately to produce precise components.
- Oversee daily machining operations, ensuring adherence to safety protocols, quality standards, and production deadlines.
- Conduct precision measurements using calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, dial indicators, and other measurement instruments for quality control purposes.
- Troubleshoot machine issues promptly; perform manual machining or use grinding tools when necessary to maintain workflow continuity.
- Train and mentor junior machinists on CNC programming techniques, machine setup procedures, measurement methods, and safety practices.
- Implement lean manufacturing principles to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and optimize tooling and machine utilization.
- Lead a team of over 20+ machinists through complex aerospace setups/manufacturing runs
- Document and create SOPs, along with driving other various standardization/continuous improvement efforts
- Train and develop newer/introductory level machinists
- Serves as a bridge between engineering/programming, quality, and machining departments.
Experience:
- Proven experience as a CNC Machinist with demonstrated expertise in CNC lathe and milling machine operations.
- Strong knowledge of CNC programming languages such as G-code and M-code; experience with Fanuc controls is preferred.
- Proficiency in CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software like Solid Works or similar for interpreting mechanical blueprints.
- Skilled in using measurement tools including micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, dial indicators, and other precision measuring instruments for quality inspection.
- Mechanical aptitude with a solid understanding of machining tools, tooling selection, fixture setup, and manual machining techniques.
- Familiarity with electrical discharge machining (EDM) processes is a plus.
- Ability to read complex blueprints accurately while applying GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) standards for precision manufacturing.
- Basic math skills are essential for calculations related to measurements, tolerances, feed rates, speeds, and dimensions.
- Experience working within lean manufacturing environments to promote continuous improvement initiatives.
