Overview
Trimmer D/4th Class
. Under supervision, a Trimmer D/4th Class maintains trees for public safety. This position provides tree trimming for assigned jobs by pruning, cutting, removing, and caring for trees. Hazards may include working near traffic, falling limbs, and energized power lines. Attention to detail and adherence to safety guidelines are critical. This is an entry-level class in the Trimmer series and receives on-the-job training, day-to-day directions, and supervision.
and Responsibilities
- Performs tree pruning, tree removal, brush chipping, and stump grinding
- Uses climbing hooks, belts, ropes, and ladders
- Operates and services equipment and tools such as hydraulic tools, power tools, buckets, chippers, and sprayers
- Cuts away dead and excess branches from trees
- Sprays to treat diseased or unhealthy trees, including mixing chemicals and calibrating spray equipment
- Other duties and responsibilities may change with or without notice
- Understands occupational hazards and safety precautions
- Must be semi-skilled in mechanics
- Must be able to complete a proficiency test consisting of climbing, knot tying, and chainsaw maintenance
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record per Company requirements
- May be required to pass a DOT physical examination to obtain the appropriate CDL
- Knowledge of essential job functions and responsibilities
- Attention to detail and strong organizational, oral, and written communication skills
- Ability to problem solve and meet all physical requirements of the position
- Pass all drug and alcohol screens as required by Company policy and, if applicable, DOT regulations
- 18 years of age or older, or 21 if CDL is required
- Legally authorized to work in the United States
- Trimmer C/3rd Class — All duties listed above plus identification of tree species and characteristics
- Trimmer B/2nd Class — All duties listed above plus diligence and assessment of tree failure risk; assists with training other trimmers
- Trimmer A/1st Class — All duties listed above plus training other trimmers; leads in absence of Foreperson or General Foreperson
- Understands occupational hazards and safety precautions
- Proficiency in basic mechanical skills
- Ability to pass a proficiency test (climbing, knot tying, chainsaw maintenance)
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
- May be required to pass a DOT physical to obtain CDL
- Knowledge of essential job functions and responsibilities
- Attention to detail, organizational skills, and strong communication
- Ability to problem solve and meet all physical requirements
- Pass drug and alcohol screens as required by Company policy or DOT
- 18+ years old (or 21+ if CDL required) and legally eligible to work in the United States
