What We Are Looking For

GVEC is looking to hire you for the position of Journeyman Lineman to deliver the unexpected with a willingness to continuously develop yourself, your department and our organization. As a Journeyman Lineman, you will help perform service line work, construction, retirement and maintenance in hazardous and non-hazardous conditions in a designated area.

Your Pay

The minimum starting pay for this role is $48.00/hr plus bonuses that are tied to a multitude of organizational benchmarks set forth annually. Pay will be determined by skills, qualifications and experience.

How You’ll Help

  • Install, maintain and repair electrical power systems to include overhead and underground lines
  • Erect and maintain poles, towers and guy wires
  • Install transformers, circuit breakers, switches and other electrical equipment
  • Conduct regular inspections and maintenance to ensure compliance with local, state and federal regulations
  • Perform routine testing and inspections to identify potential issues before they become major problems
  • Diagnose and repair electrical faults in power lines and equipment
  • Respond to power outages and emergencies, working in various weather conditions to restore service
  • Prepare reports on maintenance activities, outages and repair
  • Work with high‑voltage electricity in both overhead and underground environments
  • Service residential, commercial and industrial members
  • Ensure the reliability and safety of the electrical grid
  • Perform tasks in compliance with safety regulations and industry standards
  • Troubleshoot and resolve electrical issues efficiently
  • Operate specialized tools and equipment for line work
  • Provide training and guidance to apprentices and less experienced linemen
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, including materials used and time spent on each task
  • Use computerized systems to track and manage work orders

Experience/Skills You’ll Need

  • Follow all safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment to include the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety gear
  • Collaborate effectively with linemen, electricians and utility workers to ensure timely and efficient project completion

Preferred Experience/Skills

  • Must either produce training certificates demonstrating successful completion of Lineman Training Program and/or successfully complete the GVEC Apprenticeship Program during employment
  • Must be a self-motivated individual with a good attitude and safe work ethics
  • Must have a valid Texas driver's license and be able to obtain a Class A CDL within six months of start date
  • Demonstrates ability to effectively evaluate and manage conflicting priorities in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
  • Team player with the resolve to provide and take constructive criticism that helps evolve the team
  • Ideal candidate must be able to work under adverse conditions, handle temperature extremes and be willing to work overtime as well as in urgent situations as needed
  • Requires that residence be within 25 minutes of the reporting office within 12 months of start date
