Certification

Must hold or be eligible for State of Delaware Teacher Certification in Special Education and either middle level or secondary certification as applicable to the assigned position.

Qualifications
  • Previous experience with supporting challenging student behavior, including analyzing and interpreting data to develop an individual student behavior plan.
  • Experience with implementing behavior management techniques.
  • Clean Criminal Background Check, Child Protection Registry, and TB Clearance required prior to employment.

Responsibilities
  • Provide instructional and behavioral support in the Student Support Suite using the educational philosophy and policies adopted by the Board of Education.
  • Experience with and ability to deescalate challenging behaviors.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, students, and staff to increase student time on‑task and decrease negative behaviors in the classroom setting.
  • Utilize state and district curriculum guidelines in carrying out teaching assignments.
  • Use student data and available resources to implement a program of study that meets students' needs, interests, and abilities.
  • Provide a standards‑based, content aligned learning framework that establishes clear goals and objectives for all lessons and assignments.
  • Interpret and use data from a variety of educational sources for the improvement of instruction.
  • Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide reports to classroom teachers as required, as well as notifying parents of student progress on a consistent basis.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
  • Understand and implement the student’s IEP goals and objectives, as well as any accommodations to ensure the student’s success.
  • Collaborate with the student support team and parent/guardian to support students' academic, behavioral, and mental health needs.
  • Maintain a professional relationship, working cooperatively with all school personnel.
  • Meet responsibilities as per contractual agreement and state law.
  • Participate actively in professional growth activities, collaborative groups and Professional Learning Communities (PLC).
  • Encourage students to behave in accordance with classroom and school rules.
  • Perform other duties as requested by administration to meet the needs of the students.
