This position will have split responsibilities for performing custodial duties at MMS & Ingram Pond, as well as operating a bus route. Specific details of the position will be shared during the interview.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Meets qualifications as set forth by Delaware Code Title 14, Section 7 relative to Delaware School Bus Drivers requirements.
- Possess or able to obtain a Delaware Commercial Driver's license class B or higher with "P" passenger endorsement, "S" school bus endorsement, and air brakes endorsement.
- Satisfactory completion of the Delaware School Bus Driver Background check.
- Satisfactory completion of the Delaware School Bus Driver physical.
- Satisfactory completion of the Child Protection Registry.
- Satisfactory completion of the Delaware School Bus Driver Training class.
- Cooperative attitude and ability to work well with students, parents, school personnel, and co-workers.
- Ability to handle mental demands that include the ability to manage multiple priorities, while effectively communicating with students.
- Ability to respond and remain calm in emergency situations.
- Attends custodial training classes as may be required.
- Isable to meet the minimum physical requirements of the custodian job including climbing a ladder to a minimum of 12 feet and to lift 50 lbs. and carry it for 50 feet.
- Demonstrates the ability to review and understand oral and written instructions and/or directions
- Holds and maintains a valid motor vehicle operator's license
- Clean Criminal Background Check, TB Test, and Child Protection Registry Clearance must be completed prior to start of employment
- Operate a school bus in a safe and efficient manner at all times.
- Conduct athorough pre-trip and post-trip checks on the vehicle to ensure that the vehicle and safety equipment is operational, that no child is left on board and the vehicle is clean and secure.
- Complete initial training and yearly recertification training satisfactory.
- Report any mechanical failure or operational issues to the Transportation Supervisor or designee.
- Communicate with students and parents effectively about student behavior and bus safety requirements.
- Report incidents, accidents, or misconduct immediately to Supervisor or designee as required.
- Keep interior of bus clean and swept along with keeping windshield, mirror and rear glass clean.
- Display andenforceapproved standard of personnel hygiene and grooming, including appearance, cleanliness and appropriate dress code.
- Complete and submit all required paperwork for students'behavior, bus maintenance, and pre-trip and post-trip.
- Perform required fueling of the bus at designated location.
- May operate school bus on field trips or extracurricular activities.
- Shall perform other task and assume other responsibilities as required or assigned by supervisor.
- Clean walls, floors, carpets and other interior building components by mopping, scrubbing, waxing, shampooing or vacuuming.
- Dustand polish furniture and fixtures.
- Perform basic carpentry, painting, and glazing repairs.
- Wash windows.
- Emptyand clean wastebaskets and garbage containers and transport trash to the disposal area.
- Disinfect bathrooms, replenish soap and paper supplies.
- Moveand arrange furniture, hang drapes and window shades.
- Operatea variety of custodial equipment such as wet/dry mops and vacuums, scrubbers, carpet shampooers, buffers and lawn equipment.
- Sweep sidewalks and patios and shovel snow.
- Cutgrass and maintain grounds as necessary.
- Operate district motor vehicle to pickup and delivera variety of supplies.
- Maintain regular on-time attendance.
- Represent the school and the school district in an ethical and professional manner at all times.
- Adhereto all policies and procedures of the Indian River School District as established by the Board of Education and the Superintendent.
- Practice and demonstrate safe work habits.
- Demonstrate good judgment in the proper use and storage of chemicals and other work related supplies.
- Other duties as assigned as a bus driver, bus aide or custodian.
Indian River School District is looking for dedicated individuals who enjoy working with students and the public to become a custodian/school bus driver. This job will require the applicant to have or be able to obtain a Commercial Driver License with the School Bus, Passenger, and Air Brake endorsements. Once the applicant successfully completes the computerized tests at Department of Motor Vehicles to receive their CDL permit the applicant will then work with a Certified School Bus Driver Trainer to train to successfully pass the Department of Motor Vehicles Road Test.
This position would be a year round position with duties split between being a school bus driver and custodian.
