Position: Athletic Trainer/Health Teacher/ Selma High School 2026-2027 ($20K Stipend)

Athletic Trainer/Health Teacher

This position is being made available through support from the Korey Stringer Institute innovation project. The primary responsibilities of the athletic trainer are injury and illness prevention, clinical evaluation, emergency care, rehabilitation, and treatment of athletic injuries in the secondary school setting. Athletic Trainer/Health Teachers hired will also be required to provide education to our community related to illness and injury prevention, recognition and treatment and complete orientation with Korey Stringer Institute Staff before their start date.

This will be a virtual orientation and may provide opportunities for CEU credits. This is for a full-time exempt position as a Athletic Trainer/Health Teacher. Competitive salary dependent upon experience and generous benefits are available. Stipend ($20K).

Specific Duties

  • Record all injuries, treatments, and communications between parties.
  • Act as a liaison between parents, coaches, and physicians within the guidelines of proper practice.
  • Provide appropriate medical care for all student-athletes at assigned school and any visiting student athletes during competitions.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, etc.
  • Promote a welcome environment for student-athletes, coaches, parents, and school administrators through a high-level of professionalism.
  • Maintain and protect patient personal information according to HIPAA standards.
  • Create Emergency Action Plans for all appropriate venues and coordinate annual rehearsal of emergency action plans.
  • Inventory of all athletic training room supplies and resources.

Requirements

  • BOC Certified Athletic Trainer
  • Alabama Licensed Athletic Trainer
  • Personal vehicle for travel to school and events
  • CPR/AED/First Aid Instructor preferred but not required
  • Excellent communications and organizational skills
  • Candidates must clear a satisfactory background check

Typical Duties

  • Meets and instructs assigned students in the location and at the times designated.
  • Displays personal conduct which sets and example for students to emulate.
  • Demonstrates high expectations of students and helps for them set personal achievement goals.
  • Prepares planned lessons for classes assigned and shows written evidence of such preparation upon request of immediate supervisor.
  • Handles routines classroom duties, i.e. taking attendance, distributing, collecting material, etc,. in an organized manner placing emphasis on time-on-task.
  • Maintains an attractive classroom environment which is conducive to effective teaching and learning.
  • Uses a variety of instructional techniques and strategies while pacing instruction at a rate to cover the essential content and skills required for the subject or course.
  • Strives to implement instruction and action consistent with the Selma City School's Philosophy.
  • Monitors and evaluates students' progress on a regular basis, using appropriate assessment techniques and materials.
  • Recognizes school administrators as the instructional leaders of the school and works cooperatively by providing in a timely manner, information requested for instructional improvement, school reports and planning.
  • Works cooperatively with teaching colleagues and support personnel to promote a productive and positive school climate.
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date student records on attendance and academic progress.
  • Uses effective methods of discipline in the classroom which encourages self-discipline and assists in implementing school rules and regulations.
  • Supervises students in a responsible manner in the classroom and other areas of the school as assigned.
  • Administers tests required by the Selma City Schools and the Alabama State Board of Education.
  • Attends in-service workshops, faculty meetings, grade level or departmental meetings, and meetings to promote productive school/parent relations.
  • Confers with school administration, parents, and students concerning problems and /or progress of students.
  • Shows allegiance to the school system, helps promote school pride and assists the school administration in implementing School Board policies and regulations.
  • Follows an individual professional improvement plan to maintain and upgrade teaching competence.
  • Performs other duties as required.
  • Terms of Employment:
    Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the System approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the system.

    Evaluation:
    Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board of Education Policy.
