Dallas County School System School Psychometrist

Reports To: Director of Special Education

Job Summary

The School Psychometrist provides comprehensive psycho educational assessment services to support the identification, eligibility determination, and educational planning of students with suspected disabilities. The School Psychometrist collaborates with administrators, teachers, parents, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure compliance with federal and state special education regulations while promoting student academic and behavioral success.

Qualifications
  • Master s degree or higher from an accredited college or university.

  • Valid Alabama Professional Educator Certificate with School Psychometry certification or other appropriate Alabama certification authorizing the administration of individual intelligence and achievement assessments.

  • Knowledge of federal and state special education laws, regulations, and procedures.

  • Experience administering and interpreting standardized psychological and educational assessments.

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.

  • Valid Alabama driver s license and reliable transportation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conduct psycho educational evaluations for initial referrals and reevaluations.

  • Select, administer, score, and interpret standardized cognitive, academic, behavioral, adaptive behavior, and developmental assessments.

  • Prepare comprehensive written evaluation reports that support eligibility decisions and educational programming.

  • Participate in eligibility, Individualized Education Program (IEP), Section 504, and multidisciplinary team meetings.

  • Consult with teachers, administrators, parents, and related service providers regarding assessment results and educational recommendations.

  • Assist in determining eligibility for special education services in accordance with IDEA and Alabama State Department of Education guidelines.

  • Monitor evaluation timelines and maintain compliance with federal and state requirements.

  • Maintain accurate student records and documentation within district and state data management systems.

  • Provide recommendations for instructional interventions, accommodations, and behavioral supports.

  • Collaborate with school personnel to support intervention planning and progress monitoring.

  • Assist with transfer reviews, reevaluations, compliance monitoring, and due process documentation as needed.

  • Participate in professional development to remain current with assessment practices, legal requirements, and educational research.

  • Maintain confidentiality of student records and sensitive information.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of psycho educational assessment principles and practices.

  • Strong analytical and report-writing skills.

  • Ability to interpret assessment data and communicate findings effectively.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.

  • Proficiency in educational technology and computerized assessment systems.

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.

Working Conditions
  • Frequent travel between school sites.

  • Regular use of computers and standardized testing materials.

  • Ability to sit, stand, and move throughout school buildings during evaluations and meetings.

Terms of Employment
  • Full-time, exempt position.

  • Salary and work calendar established by the Dallas County Board of Education salary schedule.

  • Evaluation conducted annually in accordance with Board policy and applicable state requirements.
