Job SummaryThe R&D Lab Technician plays a critical role in validating the performance, reliability, and safety of data center cooling equipment. This position is responsible for hands‑on setup, wiring, instrumentation, and execution of lab testing for both customer validation and new product development.
Key Responsibilities- Set up, wire, and commission test equipment and instrumentation, including power wiring and control systems
- Execute performance and validation testing on HVAC and refrigeration‑based equipment
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control drawings
- Assist in PLC/controller setup, configuration, and basic troubleshooting
- Modify lab setups and equipment to meet evolving test requirements
- Develop and execute test plans in collaboration with engineering teams
- Collect and document test data
- Maintain and calibrate sensors and lab instrumentation
- Troubleshoot electro‑mechanical systems including fans, pumps, motors, and refrigeration circuits
- Support continuous improvement of lab processes, standards, and capabilities
- Associate’s degree in electrical, mechanical, HVAC, or related technical field (or equivalent hands‑on experience)
- 3+ years of hands‑on technical experience in a lab, manufacturing, or field service environment
- Ability to read and work from electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
- Experience with power wiring (single and three‑phase systems preferred)
- Basic understanding of PLCs or industrial controllers (setup, I/O, troubleshooting)
- Strong mechanical aptitude and experience with hand and power tools
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Ability to perform physically demanding work such as moving and lifting equipment, standing for long periods of time, etc.
- Experience with HVAC, refrigeration systems, or air handling equipment
- Familiarity with data acquisition systems and sensors
- Brazing/soldering of copper tubing
- Experience working in an R&D or test lab environment
- Basic carpentry or fabrication skills
Occasional travel may be required.
