Under the direction of the EHS Director, lead the plant’s environmental, health, and safety programs to ensure a safe and accident‑free work environment. Implement safety concepts to engage management and employees, promote plant safety, analyze accident data, and develop cost‑effective safety and environmental programs.
Responsibilities- Supervise Safety Technicians.
- Oversee all aspects of EHS compliance, including OSHA, environmental record keeping, safety action items, conference calls, audits, and accident investigations.
- Develop safety and environmental goals, provide expertise in occupational safety matters, and review injury reports.
- Conduct audits and ensure accurate injury reporting.
- Develop and implement programs to support compliance with Federal/EPA and California laws, including Emergency Planning, Hazard Communication, CalOSHA, and environmental regulations.
- Coordinate plant safety efforts, promote safe practices, and interact with employees.
- Identify hazardous conditions, develop and administer hazard control methods, and conduct safety and environmental training and certifications.
- Conduct measurements, audits, inspections, and compliance reporting.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of Continuous Improvement Methodology.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements and environmental compliance.
- High leadership and team‑building skills.
- Ability to read blueprints, drawings, and plans.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to interpret technical information and manage abstract and concrete variables.
- Ability to work nights and weekends as required.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Safety, Business Management, Organizational Development, related discipline, or equivalent experience in a meat processing facility.
- Experience developing safety programs and leading high‑performance teams.
- Demonstrated experience with Environmental Compliance.
- Bilingual preferred.
- CSP desired but not required.
The position requires significant in‑plant presence (approximately 2/3 of the day). Typical work hours are 6a.m. to 4p.m., Monday–Friday, with occasional weekend, evening, or non‑scheduled work. The role involves working in hot, humid, or cold environments; climbing ladders; walking, standing, and using hands frequently; and working in areas with moderate noise levels.
