Job Summary

Under the supervision of licensed nursing staff, the Patient Care Technician I (PCT I) provides basic, supportive patient care in accordance with hospital policies, procedures, and standards. Duties include assistance with daily living activities, vital signs collection, documentation, and safe transport, helping to ensure a safe and compassionate environment for patients.

Essential Functions

  • Provide personal care assistance including bathing, grooming, and hygiene
  • Take and record vital signs and patient measurements
  • Assist with nutrition and feeding tasks
  • Perform Point of Care Testing (e.g., Accu-Checks)
  • Support safe ambulation, turning, positioning, and transport
  • Report changes in patient condition to licensed staff
  • Document intake/output and care activities
  • Answer call lights promptly and professionally
  • Participate in purposeful rounding and team communication
  • Support admissions, discharges, and general comfort needs
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations

  • Must read, write and speak fluent English.
  • Must have good and regular attendance.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Able to organize tasks, develop action plans, set priorities and function under stressful situations.
  • Ability to maintain a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent including education equivalent to completion of secondary school or demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions of the role (preferred)
Licenses/Certifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) preferred or required within time frame specified in facility policy.
Experience

  • Healthcare experience preferred.
