Financial Aid Director

Schedule:

Commensurate with education and experience according to Salary Schedule C2.

Scope:
The Director of Financial Aid is responsible for the administration of an established financial aid program (federal, state and institutional funds) that adheres to regulations with integrity, along with upholding the mission and vision of the College. Provides financial aid related advisement and establishes procedures and policies in compliance with current federal, state, and institutional guidelines. Responsible for ensuring that all students of the college are treated fairly and have access to all federal aid programs while creating and maintaining an attitude of quality and customer service to students and families.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

In addition to adhering to the general guidelines as specified by the Faculty/Staff Handbook, the Dean of Students, the President, and the State Board of Education, responsibilities will include the following:

  • Oversee responsibility, keep up-to-date on Federal, State, and Institutional regulations, policies, and procedures for administering all financial aid programs including but not limited to Pell Grant, Federal Work-Study, Alabama Student Assistance Program, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG), and Scholarships.
  • Complete necessary reports as required by federal and state agencies; including but not limited to Fiscal Operation Report/Application for Funds (FISAP), and updating the Title IV Program Participation Agreement.
  • Train and supervise the financial aid staff and initiate programs for professional development, budget planning, and institutional effectiveness.
  • Oversee students' counseling in need of financial aid; collected and verified required documentation. Oversee creating and maintaining appropriate records, files and financial aid applications electronically.
  • Coordinate administrative/management responsibility for the Federal College Work-study Program (process/record payrolls, monitor and avoid over-awards, evaluate performance, etc.), and administer and award the Supplemental Federal and State Grants.
  • Oversee the development and oversight of student financial aid. This includes the allocation of resources and the determination of unmet needs by established policies and procedures.
  • Prepare and submit required reports and documents to the U.S. Department of Education, the appropriate state agencies, and the appropriate college officials.
  • Keep up-to-date on computer software programs and functions and work cooperatively with other departments of the college for total effectiveness in service to students.
  • Serve on the college's committees.
  • Oversee the counseling of students who require financial aid. This includes collecting and verifying all necessary documentation, ensuring that all records, files, and financial aid applications are created and maintained electronically, and ensuring that destroyed files are no longer needed in compliance with the Records Retention Regulations.
  • Work well with others and show respect to all college constituents.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean of Students or the President.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or Finance, Counseling, or related field from a regionally accredited institution required.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in Financial Aid required.
  • Familiarity with all Title IV Federal regulations required.
  • Must be computer literate.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with ED Connect computer software preferred.
  • Familiarity using Banner computer software preferred.
