Description

The Registered Nurse assumes principal responsibility for the total care of assigned clients in the respective unit. This nurse is responsible for the processes of assessment, reassessment, establishing nursing diagnoses, formulating the written plan of care, and evaluating care. The nurse initiates health‑care training and education to the client/family as required while supporting and fostering the goals of Vaughan Regional Medical Center and the Department of Nursing.

The registered nurse demonstrates awareness of ongoing unit needs and provides leadership and direction to other team members to maintain optimal standards of nursing care. The position is accountable for supervising licensed and non‑licensed personnel for assigned units. The position requires flexibility in scheduling and ability to work all shift patterns including weekends and holidays to insure continuity of care and appropriate nursing coverage to the patients of Vaughan Regional Medical Center on all units.

The registered nurse is responsible for providing care to all patient populations with consideration to age specificity and diagnosis.

Qualifications

Education: Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Alabama; required certifications include BLS, ACLS, and NRP.

Experience: Previous experience in an acute‑care hospital setting or experience in obstetric nursing preferred. Requirements include successful completion of orientation checklist and skills/credentials/competency requirements of the specific unit for identified age groups of patients.

Skills: Ability to function in stressful situations; verbal ability to present information and ideas related to nursing theory and practice; ability to accept responsibility and accountability to prescribe, delegate, and coordinate nursing care; leadership qualities; cognitive ability to provide nursing care appropriate to the patient population assigned, considering client age and diagnosis with full implementation of the nursing process including assessment/reassessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to stand for prolonged periods, walk frequently, perform repetitive tasks/motions; have good manual dexterity, ability to distinguish colors, and good eye‑hand/foot coordination; ability to lift and carry up to 20 lbs, bend, and squat constantly; able to hear alarms and telephone rings and have clear vision at 20 or more feet with or without vision corrective device.
