Job Goal:

The Transportation Supervisor's role is to coordinate and monitor the transportation of eligible students through contracted carriers in accordance with State law and Board of Education policy; coordinate field and athletic trips and the use of district-owned vehicles; organize and schedule the timely establishment of bus routes for all eligible pupils.

Terms of Employment:

12 months, 240 days

Performance Responsibilities

1. Develops, reviews, and updates bus routes, prepares maps, eligible rider lists (names and addresses), stops, and approximate times for each route.

2. Conducts interviews of new drivers and substitutes.

3. Conducts regular and consistent inspections of buses for cleanliness, readiness, and vehicle safety.

4. Coordinates repair and maintenance of buses with the director of the city maintenance shop.

5. Services buses by checking/adding oil, fuel, tire pressure, cleaning seats, and the interior, washing outside, and ensuring required equipment and forms are on relief buses;

6. Assists mechanics with minor repairs in the field as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor or Shop Foreman;

7. Assists in inspecting road conditions in bad weather and making recommendations regarding the safety of operating buses.

8. Implements Board policy in conformance with state safety regulations in reminding drivers of preventive and safety awareness.

9. Serves as a liaison for the superintendent on matters concerning bus accidents. Completes necessary reports on accidents for the school system and the State Department of Education. Reports accidents to the superintendent, local law enforcement, and insurance agency.

10. Develops and coordinates a system for managing student behavior and assuring the safety of students on school buses.

11. Maintains current and historical records.

12. Coordinates bus evacuation drills with schools.

13. Keeps an up-to-date list of substitute drivers and their qualifications and schedules substitutes as needed.

14. Attends and coordinates training of drivers in order to meet CDL and state mandatory bus driver requirements. Updates drivers as to new requirements or changes in Board policy.

15. Assists in the preparation of specifications for bidding.

16. Drives bus route as needed.

17. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Minimum Requirements:

● 3 years supervisory experience

● CDL certificate

● Alabama bus driver certificate

● Bus driver experience preferred

● All other requirements of Alabama School Code and Board of Education.

SALARY RANGE:

$62,146-$119,880
