Job Description

Northwest Community College is seeking a qualified and dynamic full-time Paramedic Instructor to join our Health Sciences faculty. This is a 12-month faculty position reporting directly to the Director of EMT. The instructor will be responsible for teaching and developing curriculum for the Paramedic program, which is a vital part of the EMS educational pathway at the college. This role involves both classroom and lab instruction, clinical oversight, and student mentorship, ensuring that students are adequately prepared for certification and professional practice.

The ideal candidate will possess current National Registry Paramedic (NRP) certification, a passion for student success, and a commitment to high educational standards.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Certification: National Registry Paramedic (NRP) certification (required).
  • Education: Associate degree or higher in Emergency Medical Services (EMS) or a related field. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of field experience as a practicing paramedic. Previous teaching or instructional experience in EMS or a related field is preferred.
  • Licensure: Mississippi state paramedic license (or eligibility to obtain one upon hire).
  • Skills: Excellent communication, organizational, and instructional skills; proficiency in current EMS technology and teaching methods.
  • CPR and ACLS Instructor Certification (preferred but not required).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Emergency Medical Services or a related field.
  • Previous experience in paramedic education, including classroom instruction and curriculum development.
  • Familiarity with the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) standards and other EMS accreditation requirements.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Key Responsibilities:
  • Classroom Instruction: Deliver lectures, lead discussions, and provide hands-on instruction in paramedic-specific courses, including trauma care, medical emergencies, and advanced life support.
  • Lab and Simulation Training: Oversee practical skills training using simulation labs and other educational technologies to reinforce hands-on learning.
  • Curriculum Development: Develop, revise, and maintain course materials and assessments in line with state and national standards, ensuring program accreditation and alignment with industry trends.
  • Assessment and Evaluation: Develop and implement assessment tools to evaluate student performance and provide constructive feedback for continuous improvement.
  • Compliance: Ensure that all instruction, curriculum, and student assessments comply with local, state, and national accrediting agencies and certification bodies.
  • Professional Development: Engage in continuous professional development to stay current.
  • Committee Participation: Participate in faculty meetings, program reviews, accreditation activities, and college committees as needed.
