Principal Quality Engineer
The Principal Quality Engineer works closely with NPI core development teams in R&D Centers of Excellence. They ensure that Itron’s Development Process is properly applied, manage global project risks, and support the PMO on all quality aspects, targeting "built in Quality" for new products and solutions.
ResponsibilitiesCoach Program/Project managers on the Itron Product Life Cycle (PLC) activity for New Product Introduction (NPI) implementation and identify and manage gaps.
Challenge Itron PLC deliverables content and verify that completed work is validated by competent people.
Support and challenge the Project/Program manager on quality topics.
Verify readiness of project gates.
Validate project termination when the product and processes are capable in all domains (Design, Procurement, manufacturing, Sales, etc.).
Lead quality in project phases (problem solving, risk avoidance, phase reviews, product and process capabilities, lessons learned).
Globally manage project risks, ensuring proper focus on contingency plans.
Represent the customer voice in the project and manage the customer in case of quality issues during the project phase.
Lead or participate in System FMEA, Design FMEA, and support Process FMEA, as well as any activity related to risk avoidance.
Support Supplier Quality in supplier selection evaluation/process audit along with PPAPs and PVLs.
Support or facilitate Project QRQC (Quick Reaction Quality Collaboration) and visual planning deployment.
Support interfaces with customers on quality aspects during project phases when the project is dedicated to a specific customer.
Act as a core team member in support of factory quality or in projects involving a third‑party partner.
Initiate project Red Alert when appropriate and ensure problem‑solving activities are properly managed.
Manage project quality KPIs, analyze results, and propose a roadmap for improvement.
Interface with the Quality organization.
Ensure the quality network is properly informed about the project and quality expectations.
Raise requests for support to the quality network when needed and when key steps are not respected.
Ensure that the customer voice is taken into account with customer quality.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a Science‑related field.
8+ years of experience as a Quality Engineer or equivalent.
Expertise in quality tools such as FMEAs, 8
Ds, quality plans, etc.Strong knowledge of reliability, capability, Design for Capability (Design For Six Sigma), SPC (statistical process control).
Proficiency with Lean Development concepts.
Ability to review open issues, bugs, and requirements in Azure Dev Ops.
Master’s or MBA desired.
