Standard Duties
Responsible for analyzing warranty data, conducting product teardowns, inspections, and identifying failure modes and root causes. The successful candidate will identify failure modes and causes, as well as correlation to application and/or customer usage profile. The engineer will communicate between cross‑functional teams in product engineering, manufacturing, assembly and supplier quality departments, working with Borg Warner team members, suppliers and customers to coordinate product and process improvements.
WarrantyAnalysis Responsibilities
- Lead teardown process
- Coordinate/perform component testing
- Perform root cause analysis
- Develop conclusion and generate documentation
- Report results to interested parties/customers
- Generate weekly and monthly warranty reports for target audience and develop warranty presentations for executive‑level reviews
- Lead warranty meetings to discuss findings with customer
- Communicate warranty findings between cross‑functional teams in product engineering, manufacturing, assembly and supplier quality departments
- Work with teams on identifying interim and permanent corrective actions
- Perform warranty forecasts using statistical analysis methods to determine C/1000 and cost impact to the organization
- Gather, review and approve warranty debits submitted by customers
- Analyze failure modes of returned parts; determine root cause(s)
- Propose improvements to products and processes for warranty cost reduction
- Chart, summarize & present data to internal and external customers in report format and in recurring teleconferences
- Work with suppliers and manufacturing across multiple sites
- Work with teams (quality, manufacturing, assembly engineering) to improve quality, processes and address non‑conformance to drawings
- Analyze data; provide process capability analyses and application of SPC
- Evaluate torque transfer products in vehicle
- Communicate effectively across functional groups (engineering, assembly, management, manufacturing) and locations (Seneca, SC, Auburn Hills, MI, and sister plants globally)
- Travel is occasionally required, up to 5% of the time.
Physical Requirements
- All employees are responsible for knowing, understanding and complying with the safety policies and procedures.
- Wear PPE when appropriate in designated campus areas.
- Lifting shoulder high up to 35 lbs. on occasion.
- 4-year degree in engineering required. Mechanical engineering preferred.
- 5+ years’ experience in warranty analysis preferred.
- Technical problem‑solving training and experience preferred. Examples include Shainin Red X®, six sigma, Toyota 8-step, 5‑Why, AIAG CQI‑14 and/or VDA QMC Field Failure Analysis.
- Engineering training and/or experience in tolerance stack‑up, fastening systems analysis, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing preferred.
- Failure mode analysis experience or training preferred. Experience with steel, aluminum and magnesium preferred.
- Professional verbal and written communication skills essential.
