To be eligible for the first review, all required documents must be submitted and the written examination must be passed by July 31, 2026. Subsequent reviews will occur monthly.
Applicants must have a valid CPAT completed within 12 months of the written exam pass date. CPAT certifications from other agencies are accepted.

Required within 7 days of passing the required exam(s).
Minimum Age
: 18.
Citizenship/Authorization
:
Must be a citizen of the United States or otherwise have authorization to work in the United States. The District does not sponsor any immigration‑related benefits.
High School Graduate/GED
:
Required.
Driver's License
:
Valid Washington State Driver’s License.
Felony Convictions
:
Reviewed on a case‑by‑case basis.
English Proficiency
:
Must be able to read, speak, and write English.
Vision Standards
:
Must meet LEOFF II standards.
Veterans Preference
:
Points awarded.
EMT Certification
:
Required.
Prior Firefighter Experience
:
Required.
Prior EMT Experience
:
Desired.
Applicants must be able to pass an NFPA 1582 medical exam, psychological evaluation, drug screen, and background investigation.
DisqualifiersDriving violations may result in disqualification.
Drug usage convictions may result in disqualification.
Felony convictions are disqualifiers.
Providing false or misleading information during the application process is an automatic disqualifier.
History of physical violence or domestic violence convictions may result in disqualification.
