The primary responsibility of a Licensed Practical Nurse is to implement and maintain established nursing objectives and standards, provide direct nursing care to residents, and supervise day‑to‑day nursing activities performed by CNAs.

Essential Duties and

Job Responsibilities Basic Nursing Care
  • Vital Signs:
    Accurately measure and record temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and respirations.
  • Medication Administration:
    Administer medications as prescribed by a physician, following facility protocols and under the supervision of an RN.
  • Wound Care:
    Perform wound care, including changing dressings and monitoring for signs of infection.
  • Hygiene and Mobility:
    Assist residents with personal hygiene, dressing, bathing, and mobility.
  • Nutrition and Hydration:
    Ensure residents receive proper nutrition and hydration, assisting with feeding if necessary.
Patient Monitoring
  • Patient History:
    Record a patient’s history and current condition.
  • Observation:
    Observe and document changes in a resident’s condition, reporting any concerns to the RN.
  • Communication:
    Communicate effectively with residents, families, and other healthcare professionals.
Collaboration and Supervision
  • RN Supervision:
    Work under the supervision of an RN, following their guidance and instructions.
  • CNA Supervision:
    Supervise certified nursing assistants (CNAs) in providing basic nursing care.
  • Teamwork:
    Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure residents receive comprehensive care.
Other Duties
  • Patient Safety:
    Maintain a safe environment for residents, following infection control protocols and other safety guidelines.
  • Documentation:
    Accurately document all care provided, including medications administered, vital signs, and observations.
  • Emotional Support:
    Provide emotional support and comfort to residents and their families.
Requirements & Qualifications
  • Must possess a nursing degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Must possess a current, unencumbered, active license to practice as an LPN in this state.
  • Must maintain an active CPR/BLS certification during employment.
  • Preferred experience in long‑term care, geriatric rehab, sub‑acute, or critical‑care clinical settings.
  • Experience with electronic medical records documentation.
