Location:

Jamestown S'Klallam Tribe - Sequim, WA 98382.
Position Type:
Per Diem (As Needed).
Salary Range: $24.96 - $32.44 hourly.

Essential Functions Field Operations
  • Dungeness and Protection Island National Wildlife Refuge research and management activities
  • Shellfish and finfish harvest monitoring
  • Dive surveys and research
  • Crab and shrimp test fisheries and research
  • Habitat and resource enhancement and restoration
  • Water quality and biotoxin sampling
Vessel Safety
  • Inspect vessels and associated equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation and maintain vessel logs as needed.
  • Utilize navigational equipment and weather forecasts to ensure safe on-the-water operations.
  • Ensure all U.S. Coast Guard required safety equipment is onboard and functional.
  • Provide clear direction to deckhands and passengers to ensure safety while underway.
Geoduck Fishery Monitoring
  • Conduct on-the-water monitoring to ensure divers and vessel operators comply with Tribal fishing regulations.
  • Confirm diver participation, weigh harvested product, and record harvested crates.
  • Ensure compliance with Washington Department of Health shellfish sanitation requirements.
  • Respond to diver emergency situations if they arise.
  • Assist with weekly harvest planning and coordination with divers.
  • Provide boat and equipment maintenance assistance.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Adhere to all Jamestown S'Klallam Tribe policies and procedures, including safety standards and work practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Washington State Boater Education Card.
  • Completion of a Motorboat Operator Certification/Training Course (MOCC/MOTC) or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated ability to safely and proficiently operate vessels up to 40 feet and associated navigational equipment.
  • Current First Aid/CPR Certification or willingness to obtain certification.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Completion of a Safety at Sea and/or Cold-Water Survival course.
  • Experience with dive operations and dive safety.
  • DAN O2 Certification.
  • HAZWOPER Certification.
  • American Indian/Alaska Native preference applies.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
  • Ability and willingness to work in harsh field conditions and inclement weather.
  • Must be available to work any shift, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as operational needs require.
  • Ability to lift, push, and carry up to 60 pounds unassisted.
  • Ability to access all work areas associated with the position.
  • Ability to stand, sit, walk, bend, climb, squat, twist, and perform physically demanding work for extended periods.
  • Requires excellent hand-eye coordination, manual dexterity, and the ability to distinguish letters, numbers, and symbols.
  • Ability to reach above and below shoulder level on a continuous basis.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, sometimes stressful environment while maintaining professionalism and effective communication with fishers, managers, team members, and external partners.
