In this capacity, you will be part of the Water/Wastewater business leadership team, managing the delivery of water‑related infrastructure projects in the multi‑million‑dollar range.
The TeamBlack & Veatch’s Governments & Communities focuses on the infrastructure needs of municipalities, state and local governments, and specialized agencies. The team partners with customers to modernize water infrastructure, optimize asset use, reduce costs, and mitigate risk.
- Prospect identification, proposal development, client presentations, project budgeting, and contracting for successful opportunities.
- Accountable for new business objectives and overall project performance.
Project management:
- External focus to interact with assigned clients and promote Black & Veatch through client and community activities.
- Support development of the overall market business plan, client engagement strategies, and leverage Black & Veatch resources.
- Oversight of engineering manager(s).
- Development of project performance goals and accountability for implementation.
- Active involvement with internal project team and owner project representatives.
- Performance and commercial management of projects, including budgeting, invoicing, and payments; lead project performance reviews.
Staff management:
- Team development, mentoring, and coaching on performance improvement.
- Recommendations for training, promotion, and identification of new candidates.
- 15+ years of business development and project management experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline.
- Professional Engineering License.
- Proven technical understanding of the Wastewater and Water markets.
- Strong sales traits, including tenacity and competitiveness.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including proposal and presentation skills.
- Ability to interface with diverse personalities and think strategically.
- Contract negotiating skills, knowledge of terms, risks, and pricing.
- Understanding of budgets and financial metrics.
- Self‑starter with ability to make decisions independently.
- Ability to meet deadlines, be flexible, and solve problems.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
- Must complete pre‑employment onboarding requirements, including background checks and drug screening.
- Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days of employment.
- Typical office and construction environments, including high noise, safety hazards, and lifting up to 40 pounds.
