The roleThe Labourer Construction & Maintenance provides labouring skills to assist with the delivery of daily road maintenance and construction activities within the Mareeba Shire. The work includes operating mobile plant and performing manual handling tasks. Maintenance of a safe working environment and application of correct manual handling techniques are essential requirements for this position.
The position involves physically demanding work to be undertaken in a hot and humid climate on a daily basis. As such it is the responsibility of the Labourer Construction & Maintenance to ensure they are physically fit and able to efficiently and consistently undertake these tasks. This includes a requirement for them to maintain their weight at or below the Safe Working Load (SWL) for the seat of the machinery and equipment the position is required to operate.
This position is based in Dimbulah, however will be required to work in a variety of locations across the Mareeba Shire including works programs that involve working and camping in remote locations for specific periods of time.
What we are looking forThe ideal candidate will possess a combination of physical abilities and knowledge necessary for the role. We are seeking individuals who thrive in a team environment and can work with limited supervision.
- You will have the physical ability to undertake manual handling and labouring tasks for extended periods in hot and humid conditions
- You will be expected to operate Council plant, machinery and vehicles and work within a team environment with limited supervision
- You will have the ability to apply safe work practices, including manual handling techniques and follow our WHS procedures and policies
- You will have sound written and verbal communication skills
You will have a current Queensland MR or HR class driver's licence, a Queensland Construction Industry White Card and be eligible to acquire Queensland Traffic Control Accreditation.
The role is physically demanding and requires you to be physically fit and will be subject to the satisfactory completion of a pre-employment medical assessment.
You will be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, Australian permanent resident or have unrestricted work rights in Australia. Mareeba Shire Council does not offer employer visa sponsorship.
