Job Summary

The Veterinary Hospital Shift Lead (“Shift Lead”) provides exceptional client and pet experiences while assisting the Practice Manager and/or Chief of Staff (COS) in guiding the team to maximize productivity and profitability of the hospital, and helps ensure effective communication with all clients, internal stakeholders, and colleagues. The Shift Lead also performs the duties of a Client Services Coordinator and Veterinary Assistant when needed.

  • Assist and support hospital leadership in developing an efficient, productive team that provides the highest quality care and service to the most pets and clients.
  • Follow Banfield protocols and practices, focusing the team to achieve practice priorities while building our culture and brand.
  • Day‑to‑day supervision of the team when called upon and ensuring quality medical care, exceptional client service, associate engagement and maximum productivity.
  • Create an environment where a team can deliver quality, efficient and effective veterinary care to pets and fostering an environment that engages associates.
  • Provide professional, efficient and exceptional client service (lead by example), ensuring all associates do the same, including client education about Optimum Wellness Plans, preventive care, pet health needs, hospital services, marketing campaigns, and other related information; effectively resolve client issues.
  • Assist in effectively scheduling associates to meet client needs according, while proactively planning time off and CE scheduling.
  • Ensure compliance with all practice policies and procedures.
  • Ensure adherence to Banfield dress and grooming guidelines.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned.

Hiring Qualifications
  • Ability to work at a computer for long periods of time.
  • Ability to be confident around pets (dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, etc.).
  • Position requires working special hours including weekends and evening shifts.
  • Must have mental processes for reasoning, remembering, mathematics and language ability (reading, writing, speaking English).
  • Comfortable working in a loud (moderately high) and strong-smell environment.
  • Requires sufficient ambulatory skills to perform duties while at hospital.
  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb and manipulate up to 50 lbs.
  • Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm-hand-finger dexterity, visual acuity for keyboard and equipment.
  • Ability to handle pets that may bite or scratch; exposure to anesthesia, radiation, biological hazards, medication/controlled substances.
  • High School Diploma preferred.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Minimum of two years veterinary hospital experience.
