EMT; Part-Time

The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is responsible for supporting Sevier County Emergency Medical Services by providing emergency medical care and patient transport in response to a wide range of medical emergencies. Primary responsibilities include responding to dispatched calls, assessing patients and emergency scenes, administering emergency medical treatment, and safely transporting patients to the nearest and/or most appropriate medical facility based on the nature of the medical condition or injury.

This position also includes operating emergency response vehicles as part of a two-person team, maintaining readiness of vehicles and medical equipment, completing required patient care documentation, and adhering to all applicable medical protocols and safety standards. Job performance will be evaluated by the Shift Supervisor and/or EMS Director based on emergency response effectiveness, clinical decision-making, adherence to medical and operational protocols, technical knowledge and skill, physical capability, documentation accuracy, and the ability to remain calm, professional, and responsive during emergency and extended shift assignments.

• Inspect emergency response vehicles prior to each shift to ensure cleanliness, operational readiness, and adequate medical supplies and equipment.
• Respond promptly and safely to dispatched emergency medical calls in accordance with established protocols.
• Assess emergency scenes and patients to determine appropriate emergency medical care prior to and during transport.
• Provide emergency medical treatment to stabilize patients, including monitoring vital signs and responding to changes in patient condition.
• Obtain relevant medical and situational information from patients, family members, bystanders, and other involved parties.
• Transport patients to the nearest and/or most appropriate medical facility based on medical condition, injury severity, and protocol guidance.
• Communicate patient status, care provided, and observations to receiving medical personnel upon arrival at medical facilities.
• Perform non-emergency medical transport between hospitals, nursing homes, dialysis centers, and other facilities as assigned.
• Complete accurate and timely patient care reports and required documentation, including patient information, insurance details, mileage, and dispatch times.
• Maintain communication with dispatch regarding location, status, and availability throughout assigned shifts.
• Follow universal precautions and infection control procedures when exposed to bodily fluids.
• Clean, restock, and ensure proper functioning of medical equipment and supplies on emergency response vehicles.
• Assist with maintaining cleanliness and organization of EMS facilities, vehicles, and equipment.
• Participate in public education activities and presentations related to EMS services and basic first aid, as assigned.
• Attend required training, continuing education, and certification maintenance activities.
• Perform other incidental and related duties as required and assigned.

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification issued by the State of Tennessee.
• Valid CPR certification.
• Ability to pass a physical and drug screen administered by a licensed physician.
• Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Class D Tennessee driver’s license with an “F” endorsement that has not been revoked for any cause within the past five (5) years.
• Ability to be insured at standard vehicle liability rates.
• Ability to work extended shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and shifts up to or exceeding twenty-four (24) hours.

• Prior experience providing emergency medical services in a pre-hospital or ambulance setting.
• Familiarity with Sevier County roadways, EMS protocols, and local medical facilities.

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

• Knowledge of emergency medical principles, techniques, and procedures required for EMT practice in Tennessee.
