Power Plant Instructor – Seward
The Department of Labor and Workforce Development’s Division of AVTEC is recruiting for a Power Plant Instructor located in Seward. The role is part of the Alaska Vocational Technical Teacher’s Unit (AVTECTA) and focuses on the Power Plant Operator and Bulk Fuels Operator programs, delivered both online and in person.
ResponsibilitiesAs a Power Plant Instructor, your duties include:
- Planning, developing, and delivering instruction in the Power Plant Operator and Bulk Fuels Operator programs (online and in person).
- Maintaining and developing program curriculum.
- Designing, building, and maintaining the industry‑based labs and shop areas.
- Facilitating program advisory board meetings.
- Maintaining student training records.
Minimum requirements include:
- Four years of journey‑level trade experience in the applicable field, or
- Bachelor’s degree, two years of journey‑level trade experience, and two years of professional experience developing, coordinating, and presenting adult training or vocational education programs.
- Industry‑recognized professional certification, two years of journey‑level trade experience, and two years of professional experience developing, coordinating, or presenting adult training or vocational education programs.
Position‑specific competencies:
- Education and Training:
Knowledge of teaching, training, presenting, lecturing, assessing student learning and mastery of skills, and other instructional methods. Demonstration of abilities may be required. - Mechanics:
Knowledge of machines and tools, including design, use, benefits, repair, operation, and maintenance. - Teaching Others:
Ability to help others learn through formal or informal methods, identify training needs, provide constructive feedback, coach others, and act as a mentor. - Flexibility:
Openness to change and new information, rapid adaptation to changing conditions, or unexpected obstacles. - Electrical Engineering:
Knowledge of concepts, principles, theories, methods related to design, analysis, test, and integration of electrical systems; energy conversion; electrical power generation; energy transmission, control, distribution, or usage.
