Overview
Recruiting for a Maritime Instructor in Seward, Alaska. This position is exempt from the hiring freeze and does not require a cover letter.
ResponsibilitiesDevelop curriculum approved by the United States Coast Guard, create training materials, and maintain equipment used for maritime courses. Advise students on merchant mariner credential applications, operate simulators, and conduct outreach activities for rural communities.
Qualifications- Education and Training:
Knowledge of teaching, training, research, presentations, lecturing, testing, and other instructional methods. - Oral Communication:
Makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens effectively; clarifies information as needed. - Written Communication:
Writes in a clear, concise, organized, and convincing manner for the intended audience. - Flexibility:
Is open to change and new information; rapidly adapts to new information, changing conditions, or unexpected obstacles. - Technical Competence:
Uses knowledge acquired through formal training or extensive on‑job experience to perform the job; works with, understands, and evaluates technical information related to the job; advises others on technical issues.
Minimum qualifications can be met with one of the following routes:
- Four years of journey‑level trade experience in the applicable field.
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in the applicable field, plus two years of journey‑level trade experience and two years of professional experience developing, coordinating, and presenting adult training or vocational education programs.
- An industry‑recognized professional certification in the applicable field, plus two years of journey‑level trade experience and two years of professional experience developing, coordinating, and presenting adult training or vocational education programs.
Positions in the AVTEC Instructor job class require expertise in a particular vocational field such as culinary arts, business or office technology, applied technology, information technology, maritime operations or safety, medical services, construction, or the trades. Each position’s required training or experience is unique to the assigned field of instruction.
