Overview
The Department of Labor and Workforce Development, Division of AVTEC, is recruiting a Culinary Arts Instructor located in Seward, Alaska. The instructor will be a member of the Alaska Vocational Technical Teacher's Unit (AVTECTA) and will collaborate with an existing Culinary Arts faculty member to deliver high-quality instruction.
ResponsibilitiesThe instructor will plan, develop, and deliver the Culinary Arts program, including maintaining and updating curriculum and managing practical industry‑based labs and kitchen areas. Key duties also include facilitating program advisory board meetings, maintaining student training records, and supporting overall program quality and consistency.
Qualifications- Education and Training:
Knowledge of teaching, training, research, presentations, lectures, testing, and other instructional methods. - Technical Competence:
Applies acquired technical knowledge through formal training or extensive on‑the‑job experience; evaluates technical information and advises others. - Leadership:
Influences, motivates, and challenges others while adapting leadership styles to various situations. - Partnering:
Builds networks and alliances; collaborates across boundaries to achieve common goals. - Food Service:
Knowledge of preparing and serving food for consumption.
Experience Requirements: Four years of journey‑level trade experience in culinary arts, or a bachelor’s degree in an applicable field combined with appropriate professional experience in training or vocational education.
Special Note: The position requires expertise in a specific vocational field (e.g., culinary arts). Candidates must have the appropriate specialty background as identified in the recruitment bulletin.
