The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) provides direct patient care functions under the supervision of a registered nurse in a long-term care facility. This role involves assisting patients with daily living activities, collecting patient data, performing designated procedures, and maintaining a clean and safe environment. The CNA also performs clerical and communication duties to support the efficient functioning of the department.
Location:
Seward, Alaska, United States
Responsibilities:
- Assists patients with activities of daily living, including ambulation, positioning, skin care, and hygiene.
- Assists with feeding and meal delivery.
- Collects and records patient data, including vital signs, weights, and I&O.
- Obtains urine, stool, and sputum specimens.
- Communicates patient status and reports changes in patient condition to licensed professionals.
- Performs incentive spirometry and assists with oxygen therapy.
- Transports patients and prepares rooms for admission and discharge.
- Assists nurses in emergency situations.
- Maintains and cleans equipment.
- Performs oral and nasopharyngeal suctioning.
- Performs blood sugar finger sticks.
- Removes IV catheters per licensed nurse instruction.
- Performs EKGs (department specific).
- Answers unit phones and directs calls.
- Enters data into electronic medical records and documents patient care.
- Coordinates equipment and supply needs.
Required Skills &
Certifications:
- CNA license
- AHA BLS Provider CPR certification
- Previous travel experience
- Long Term Care (LTC) experience

Special Considerations:
- Must be willing to work at least 2 of the 3 major Winter holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years).
- No more than 2 weeks of Requested Time Off (RTO) will be considered for a 26-week contract.
- Must be willing to float within scope to meet facility needs.
- The facility will provide a vehicle for use around town (within a 30-mile radius).
- The traveler must provide a copy of a valid driver's license and proof of insurance.
Scheduling:
- 4x12 Variable shifts (or 3x12 Variable shifts - traveler's choice).
- Shifts will be either Days or Nights, dependent on facility needs at the time of the start date.
- Caregivers are not asked to rotate between night/day shifts (occasional exceptions for urgent staffing needs).
- Guaranteed 60 hours per 2 weeks; the traveler can be called off for one 12-hour shift per 2 weeks.
