The Alaska Sea Life Center is offering a paid Graphic Design & Communications Apprenticeship in Seward, AK (onsite). Working with the Marketing and Communications team, the intern helps strengthen the organization’s brand, identity, and reputation through written and visual communication for educational initiatives and community-facing projects.

Role Overview

This apprenticeship supports communication and outreach through the creation of educational content and graphic design. The intern will assist with initiatives, newsletters, digital platforms, and collaborative efforts, including work connected to the CORaL Network and the Education Department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in producing graphic designs and written content that support communication and outreach, including projects with the Education Department and CORaL Network.
  • Help collect, organize, develop, and deliver engaging educational content for diverse audiences, supporting both learning and communications objectives while meeting deadlines.
  • Create content for digital platforms, including digital signage, some social media content, and email campaigns.
  • Develop print materials such as educational workbooks, visuals for marketing educational events, and activity sheets.
  • Collaborate across departments to align branding, storytelling, and learning goals with the Marketing and Communications team.
  • Maintain an organized catalog of visual assets for broader Center use.
  • Produce well-written copy free from errors.
  • Support additional educational and communications projects as assigned.
  • Actively seek new storytelling opportunities and take initiative in content development.
  • Maintain positive, professional interactions with visitors, volunteers, community leaders, contractors, and fellow staff through strong service standards and cooperation.
  • Comply with Alaska Sea Life Center policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • College graduate or currently enrolled in an accredited college or university, with a background or coursework in a related field.
  • For full consideration, submit a portfolio including graphic design and writing samples along with your application and resume.
  • Candidates are encouraged to include additional communications skills (for example, video, photography, social media content, and more) in the portfolio.
  • Ability to speak effectively and feel comfortable meeting new people when interfacing with guests.
  • Ability to work independently with strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite programs.
  • Strong visual storytelling skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Organized, self-motivated, and able to manage multiple projects.
  • Team-oriented approach with willingness to learn and collaborate.
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic, mission-focused environment.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.

  • Pay: USD 17 to 19 per hour
