Position: Corrections Nurse 1/2 (PCN 20-8214)

The Alaska Department of Corrections (DOC), Division of Health and Rehabilitation Services is recruiting for a Corrections Nurse 1/2 to join the team at the Spring Creek Correctional Center (SCCC), located in Seward, Alaska.

  • Triage and assess patients
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments
  • Maintain patient medical records
  • Observe, document, and report changes in the physical and mental conditions of inmates

The Working Environment You Can Expect

Spring Creek Correctional Center is a maximum‑security facility that houses up to 535 male inmates. This facility sits on 328 acres with six buildings for over 118,000 sq. feet. Nurses working in correctional settings exercise autonomy and must become fluent in our policy, procedures and protocols as well as have a deep understanding of their scope of practice.

Corrections Nurse 1

Eligibility for licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska.

Corrections Nurse 2

Eligibility for licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska; AND EITHER

  • Successful completion of a formal training plan as a Corrections Nurse I with the State of Alaska.
  • One year of entry level experience as a Registered Nurse. Examples of this experience include but are not exclusively limited to prior service as a Corrections Nurse I, Psychiatric Nurse I, or Nurse I with the State of Alaska or its equivalent with another employer.

Combinations of prior training and experience in other specializations of nursing care (e.g., Med‑Surg, Psychiatric, Public Health, Critical Care) will be evaluated for comparability on a case‑by‑case basis.

Candidates not currently licensed by the State of Alaska, who otherwise meet the eligibility requirements for licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska and requisite qualifying experience, may apply for vacancies in this job class. Applicants qualifying under this option may receive a conditional job offer; however, proof of licensure will be required prior to final appointment and reporting for duty.
