MIG Welder Summary
Performs welding of metal components using MIG (Metal Inert Gas) welding processes. Works from blueprints, diagrams, and work instructions to produce strong, consistent welds that meet strength, dimensional, and appearance requirements.
MIG WelderEssential Duties and Responsibilities
Education and/or Experience
- High school diploma or GED required.
- MIG welding experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- Must pass MIG welder evaluation test within 60 days of hire.
- Welding certification (MIG) within 60 days of hire.
- Strong focus on producing quality work that meets or exceeds standards, with a commitment to continuous improvement.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills; active listening and clear information exchange.
- Skilled in MIG welding techniques, including proper setup, adjustment, and operation of welding equipment.
- Ability to perform accurate measurements and basic math calculations (fractions, decimals) for layouts and welds.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve welding or fabrication issues.
- Organized and detail-oriented with the ability to follow standard work processes and complete accurate documentation, including count boards and quality records.
- Physically able to meet job demands, including lifting up to 50 lbs., standing for extended periods, and using hands for fine manipulation.
- Regularly required to stand, use hands for fine manipulation, and communicate effectively.
- Frequently required to walk and reach with hands and arms; occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. regularly.
- Manual dexterity for operating welding and fabrication tools.
- Tolerance for working in environments with moderate noise, heat, and fumes (with PPE).
- Requires close, distance, peripheral, and depth vision, along with the ability to adjust focus.
- Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts, welding fumes, airborne particles, and UV radiation from the welding arc.
- Manufacturing plant setting with exposure to machinery, welding equipment, noise, and varying temperatures.
- Required use of PPE including safety glasses, welding helmet, gloves, hearing protection, and protective clothing.
- May be assigned to different areas of the plant based on production needs.
