Part‑time Weekends/Overs nights Security Officer
Location:
Seward, NE
Position
Purpose:
Under the supervision of the Director of Security, patrol assigned territory to protect persons and property. Must be at least 19 years of age to apply. Position pays $17 an hour.
- Tours buildings and property of the university, examining doors, windows, and gates to assure they are secure.
- Inspects premises for such irregularities as signs of intrusion, interruption of utility services, suspicious acts or persons and fire or safety hazards.
- Inspects fire alarms, fire extinguishers, closed circuit television and access control systems for signs of tampering.
- Answers alarms, investigates disturbances, and calls appropriate authorities as required by situation.
- Answers lock out calls from students or faculty/staff.
- Locks and unlocks doors according to schedule.
- Assists visitors or the general public in problems that may arise on the university campus.
- Writes reports of irregularities and keeps a daily log.
- Maintains confidentiality of security information.
- Previous experience as a security officer preferred.
- Certified in First Aid and CPR is a plus.
- Ability to walk for 30-40 minutes per hour during an eight‑hour shift.
- Ability to climb up to three flights of stairs at a time.
- Ability to withstand outdoor weather conditions throughout the year.
- Vision correctable to 20/20 required.
- Hearing correctable within a normal range required.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
- Strong verbal and interpersonal skills.
- Must possess a good moral character.
Position Requirements
- All staff and faculty must follow security policies that correspond to the level of sensitivity of the data they handle.
- Staff and faculty should promptly report any security concerns or incidents to designated personnel.
- Maintain security and patching of personal devices connected to the Institutional email.
- Maintain high standards for institutional, staff, faculty, employee, and financial data used for business operations.
- Values and beliefs aligned with the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod.
- Committed to an environment of encouragement, teamwork, and excellence within a Christian University.
- Demonstrate character qualities of enthusiasm, courtesy, flexibility, integrity, gratitude, kindness, self‑control, perseverance, and punctuality.
- Be professional and courteous in dealing with students, families, faculty and staff, and the general public.
