Position: TESOL/Bilingual Teacher PK-12

Location:

District-Wide (anticipated for CLS)

Broad Function:
Supports and enhances student learning as the TESOL's Teacher, PK-12.

Reports to:

Director of Curriculum and Building Principal(s)

Qualifications and

Experience:
  • CT Teaching Certification - CT Bilingual (902/009) and CT TESOL - 111
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills with individuals, teams, and groups (teachers, parents, administrators, and support staff)
  • Bachelor of the Arts or Bachelor of Science
  • Proof or demonstration of Spanish proficiency
  • Ability to work effectively with others
  • Ability to foster and facilitate learning and classroom management
Responsibilities:
  • Use mainstream curriculum and native language (Spanish) as the vehicle to teach content and the English language.
  • Make instructional use of both Spanish and English during instruction
  • Enable students to achieve English proficiency and academic mastery of subject matter content and higher order skills, including critical thinking, to meet appropriate grade level expectations
  • Collaborate with EL and classroom teachers on a regular basis
  • Regularly monitor students to determine progress in language acquisition to provide input on placement and eventual exit from the program.
  • Assist in the administration and coordination of the annual assessment (LAS Links) of identified EL students as mandated by State and Federal statutes.
  • Communicate with parents/guardians of bilingual students regarding progress and changes to services using meetings, conferences and report cards.
  • Work with building administration and the EL department head to develop reasonable schedules for students.
  • Participates in department and building level meetings
  • Adheres to the guidelines of the SEA contract
  • Reports to building principal(s).
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
  • Ensure safety of students
  • Sets and reinforces clear expectations and classroom routines
  • Manages the classroom and individual student behavior to maintain an advantageous learning environment
  • Prepares lesson plans that achieve clear objectives, uses appropriate techniques, and serves the needs of all learners in the classroom
  • Demonstrates strong content knowledge
  • Follows the scope and sequence of the instructional program
  • Maintains accurate and complete records as well as appropriate documents and data on student progress
  • Assesses student learning on continual basis and identify areas of intervention if needed
  • Designs instruction to meet the needs of all students through both individual and small group settings as needed
  • Maintains a positive learning environment that encourages open communication between the teacher and learner
  • Maintains a positive school community image that encourages ethical student behavior
  • Assists in the selection of textbooks, equipment and other education materials
  • Establishes and maintains professional relationships
  • Participates in professional learning by attending seminars and workshops to improve instructional practice and positively affect student achievement
  • Has knowledge of teaching methods, materials and educational practices
  • Maintain respect at all times for confidential information
  • Position is a member of the Seymour Education Association
