Work hours are 8:30 am to 12:30 pm from May 26 to July 24, 2026.

• Works with program coordinator in development of summer curriculum
• Assists with pre‑camp orientation and training
• Instruct, communicate and encourage students enrolled in program
• Establish a classroom environment favorable to learning and personal growth
• Provide supervision of staff on camp site
• Responsible for knowing each group’s daily activities
• Ensures proper supplies and equipment to implement a successful camp
• Responds swiftly to parents’ concerns
• Develops accurate camp record‑keeping practices (i.e., attendance, transportation, facilities maintenance and day‑to‑day program evaluation)
• Assists in the post‑camp evaluation of program and staff
• Prepares a written, detailed report that includes recommendations for next year
• Administers first aid and CPR when necessary
• Constantly alert to protect health and safety of all campers
• Conducts himself in a professional manner at all times as a representative of the Shaker Heights Recreation Department
• Other duties as assigned

Knowledge of child care practices and techniques; knowledge of children’s developmental and social growth expectations and needs; general knowledge of health, safety, first aid methods and techniques and CPR, AED certifications; skilled in working with children; ability to develop plans and programs for individual development; ability to establish and maintain standards of behavior; ability to present material effectively, both orally and in writing, and ability to teach in a classroom setting and supervise in outdoor activities and field trips.

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited community college with coursework in early childhood education and considerable experience communicating effectively and exchanging important information with parents, staff, students and associates. Certified teacher preferred.
