SUMMARY:
Hathaway Brown School is seeking an engaging, collaborative, and enthusiastic Long-Term Substitute Primary Science Teacher to join our Primary School from approximately mid-January 2027 through mid-March 2027. The long-term substitute will provide science instruction for Primary School students and ensure continuity of learning throughout the assignment. The successful candidate will deliver established curriculum, facilitate hands-on and inquiry-based learning experiences, and create a classroom environment that encourages curiosity, exploration, and scientific thinking.
This individual will work closely with Primary School classroom teachers, specialists, and divisional leadership to support student learning and maintain consistent routines and expectations. Strong classroom management, flexibility, and a genuine enthusiasm for working with elementary-aged students are essential.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, specialists, and Primary School leadership to support student learning.
- Maintain a warm, structured, and inclusive classroom environment with clear routines and expectations.
- Assess student understanding and provide meaningful feedback on learning and participation.
- Adapt instruction as appropriate to meet the developmental and learning needs of students.
- Prepare classroom materials, demonstrations, and experiments while maintaining a safe learning environment.
- Facilitate engaging, hands-on, and inquiry-based science lessons and activities.
- Provide science instruction to Primary School students in accordance with established curriculum and learning goals.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Strong classroom management, communication, organization, and collaboration skills.
- Prior experience teaching or working with elementary-aged students preferred.
- Bachelor's degree required; degree in science, elementary education, science education, or a related field preferred.
- Ability to facilitate hands-on science activities and step into an established program with consistency and flexibility.
Language
Skills:
Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking; capable of interpreting documents and communicating effectively with parents and staff.
Reasoning Ability:
Skilled in problem-solving, data collection, and drawing valid conclusions.
Physical Demands:
Regular activities include standing, walking, sitting, manual tasks, and communication. Frequent reaching, stooping, kneeling, or crawling; occasional climbing or balancing. Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally. Reasonable accommodations available for individuals with disabilities.
Work Environment:
Typically moderate noise levels; accommodations provided as needed.
COMPENSATION:
This is a temporary, long-term substitute assignment beginning approximately mid-January 2027 and continuing through approximately mid-March 2027. This is an hourly position, with the hourly rate to be determined based on experience.
