Business Development Representative Position SummaryUnder the direction of the Chief Marketing Officer, the Business Development Representative supports North Star Regional’s growth and community presence by developing and maintaining strong referral and community partnerships, representing the organization at key behavioral health, networking, and community events, and serving as an ambassador for North Star Regional’s mission, services, and values. This role builds trusted relationships with referral sources and stakeholders, monitors and evaluates community perception of North Star Regional, and gathers insights to inform outreach strategies, strengthen partnerships, and enhance organizational impact while collaborating closely with Admissions, Marketing, and clinical leadership to align community engagement with referral growth and organizational priorities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities 1. Business Development and Outreach- Represent North Star Regional at conferences, provider meetings, networking events, and SUD-related community events.
- Proactively schedule and conduct outreach visits, meetings, and tours with current and prospective referral sources.
- Develop, nurture, and maintain strong relationships with community partners, referral sources, and key stakeholders.
- Identify new referral opportunities, partnership prospects, and communicate insights to leadership.
- Accurately document outreach activities, referral interactions, and follow-up communications.
- Maintain up-to-date referral source profiles, contact information, and relationship notes.
- Track outreach activity & referral engagement to support reporting, follow-up, and planning.
- Track referral trends, conversion rates, and census performance.
- Identify new market opportunities, underserved populations, and referral gaps.
- Assist in planning, coordinating, and execution of business development events, including:
- Conferences and trade shows
- Open houses and community events
- Educational and training sessions
- Support pre-event outreach, on-site engagement, and post-event follow-up with attendees and referral partners.
- Capture and provide photos, visuals, and content from outreach activities and events to support marketing and social media efforts.
- Coordinate with the Marketing team to ensure accurate, timely, and brand-aligned promotion across platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and Linked In.
- Share field-based insights to inform outreach messaging and marketing content.
- Work closely with Admissions, Marketing, and clinical leadership to align outreach efforts with program availability, referral needs, and organizational priorities.
- Communicate program updates, service changes, and key information to referral partners.
- Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and competence when engaging with individuals and organizations from diverse backgrounds.
- Uphold North Star Regional’s organizational and therapeutic culture, consistently modeling the core values of Respect, Accountability, Integrity, Spirituality, and Excellence (R.A.I.S.E!).
- Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and ethical standards in all outreach interactions.
- Support special projects, outreach initiatives, and digital tasks as assigned.
- Perform related duties as needed to support the Marketing & Business Development functions.
- Prior experience working with hospitals, counties, or managed care organizations.
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, healthcare administration, or related field. Equivalent professional experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
- Minimum 3-5 years of healthcare outreach, admissions, business development, or referral management experience.
- Strong understanding of levels of care within behavioral health and substance use treatment.
- Demonstrated success in relationship-based growth roles and referral development roles.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel regularly within the state of Minnesota and surrounding areas.
- Knowledge of Minnesota DHS licensing and healthcare referral networks.
