The South West Metro Intermediate District #288 has an immediate and full-time opening for a Special Education Para educator, in the Transitions program located at Dean Lakes Education Center in Shakopee, MN. South West Metro serves students in 11 member districts and 8 associate member districts across the southwestern Twin Cities metropolitan area with programs in Special Education, Career and Technical Education, Care & Treatment, Adult Education, and Alternative Education.

The Transitions Program serves students at Dean Lakes Education Center in ages 18-22. Transitions is an Autism Program (ASD), Emotional/Behavioral Program (EBD), and a Developmental Cognitive/Behavioral Program (DCD).
Description:
Special Education Para educator, 7 hours a day for 183 Contract Days. Efficiently and effectively assist in providing a well-organized, smoothly functioning program in a special education setting while working under the supervision of a supervising teacher. Performs support work assisting students in meeting educational, communication, emotional, physical and behavioral goals of special needs students. Works Individually or in small groups.
Job Summary:
Provide support by working directly with students to increase their academic, social/behavioral, communication, and study skills under the direction of the teacher(s).
Qualifications:
• Two years of study at an institution of higher education (60 college credits) OR an Associate degree (or higher) OR the successful completion of the Para educator training and assessments (District funded).
• The ability to obtain PCA/CFSS certificate.
• Experience working with students with significant disabilities is preferred, but not required.
• Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (CPI) required. Training is offered by the school district.
• Must pass a background check.
• Capable of discretion/confidentiality. Pay & Benefits:
The pay range for this position is $ per hour with the opportunity to earn up to $4.80 more per hour when completing continuing education.
