Special Education Trainee

The South West Metro Intermediate District #288 has multiple full-time openings for a Special Education Trainee supporting South West Metro Intermediate District's programs at various locations. South West Metro serves students in 11 member districts and 8 associate member districts across the southwestern Twin Cities metropolitan area with programs in Special Education, Career and Technical Education, Care & Treatment, Adult Education, and Alternative Education.

Description:

Special Education Trainee, 8 hours a day for 260 contract days. Efficiently and effectively assist in providing a well-organized, smoothly functioning program in a special education setting while working under the supervision of a supervising teacher. Performs support work assisting students in meeting educational, communication, emotional, physical and behavioral goals of special needs students. Works individually or in small groups.

Job Summary:

Provide support by working directly with students to increase their academic, social/behavioral, communication, and study skills under the direction of the teacher(s).

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in special education or near completion or ability to obtain a Minnesota Short Call Substitute License.
  • Experience working with students with significant disabilities.
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (CPI) required. Training is offered by the school district.
  • Must pass a background check.
  • Capable of discretion/confidentiality.
