SUMMARY:
We are currently seeking a Hospital Operator to join our team. This 0.50 (40 hours per pay period) role will primarily work remotely (SHIFT: 6:00 PM - 9:30 PM Tuesday and Friday AND 7:00 AM - 2:00 PM Every Other Weekend). Purpose of this position:
Facilitates the flow of internal and external medical center communications for organization. Performs the duties necessary to accommodate a Medical Answering Service and Patient Information. Working remotely will start after the training period has been completed. Individuals will need a quiet working environment, high-speed internet, fire alarm, fire extinguisher, and desk space. Hennepin Healthcare will supply computers, monitors, keyboard, mouse, and phone.
Employees will need to be within a 100-mile radius of our downtown campus
- Routes internal and external calls to the appropriate department, physician, or staff member
- Responds to medical emergencies by notifying the appropriate team/responder according to established emergency procedures. (i.e. Hennepin Assault Response Team(HART) and Cardiac Catheterization Lab.)
- Performs services required as an HCMC switchboard operator and medical answering service
- Records and relays messages according to current process/procedural standards
- Manages communication workflows 24/7 for incoming requests to Hennepin Connect for consult or transfer/referral of patients to HCMC
- Performs duties as Patient Information 24/7
- Provides phone coverage/answering service for internal departments according to the current established process. (i.e. Interpreter Services, Environmental Services, Health Information Management, Telehealth, etc.)
- Prepares daily provider “On Call” schedule. (Night shift)
- Processes schedule changes upon request and relays updated information to the team. (All shifts)
- After business hours, process emergent edits to AMION on-call schedules for staff upon request
- Processes EVENT reports according to current practice. (Night shift)
- Performs related duties as requested, but only when trained to do so
Minimum Qualifications:
- One year related work experience
- OR-
- An approved equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience in a multi-line environment
- Experience with medical answering service
- At least one year PC experience working with Microsoft or similar Windows based software system; must be computer proficient
- Ability to verbally communicate information in a professional and efficient manner
- Ability to establish and maintain a positive rapport with customers and staff regardless of age, background, race, gender, disability, values, lifestyles, perspectives, or interests
- Willingness to be a customer service provider. Ability to listen effectively and respond accordingly
- Considerable ability to be tactful and courteous
- Ability to perform and coordinate multiple, sometimes repetitive, tasks simultaneously
- Computer keyboard experience. Speed and accuracy is essential
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential. Ability and desire to work as part of a team
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- basic understanding of medical terminology is helpful
