About the RoleWe are seeking a skilled Structural Welder specializing in Flux Core MIG welding (FCAW) to support fabrication of bridge components up to 1/2" thick. This is a hands-on role where you'll work directly from blueprints, perform layout and full fabrication, and operate a variety of shop equipment.
This position is ideal for welders who take initiative and want to grow into a Lead Welder role, with opportunities for advancement based on performance and skill development.
Key Responsibilities- Perform flux core MIG (FCAW) welding on structural steel components for bridge projects
- Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and weld symbols to execute layouts and fabrication
- Perform vertical (3G), overhead, and flat welds to meet quality standards
- Set up and complete structural welds in accordance with specifications
- Operate overhead cranes and jib cranes to safely move materials
- Use fabrication tools such as: band saws, drill presses, stud welders, grinders
- Work across the shop floor (not confined to a single weld bay)
- Weld in varied positions, including confined or awkward spaces when needed
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment
- Work independently and prioritize tasks with minimal supervision
- Support team members and grow into a leadership/Lead Welder role
- Strong experience in structural steel welding (FCAW / flux core MIG)
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and perform full fabrication layouts
- Experience with vertical welding (3G vertical up)
- Ability to pass required welding tests: 3F and 4F (within first few days), 3G vertical up (within first month)
- Ability to pass a 3G vertical up weld test on 7/8" plate with full penetration (X-ray tested)
- Ability to work independently with strong attention to detail
- Physical ability to: lift up to 50 lbs, kneel, stoop, and crawl regularly
- Experience in bridge fabrication or large structural steel projects
- Prior experience as a Lead Welder or team lead
- Experience operating overhead/jib cranes
- Hands-on fabrication experience with shop equipment
- Strong work ethic and willingness to learn new skills
- Work on high-impact bridge and infrastructure projects
- Clear path to Lead Welder and leadership opportunities
