Corrections Captain

At the State of Minnesota, employees play a critical role in maintaining security at Minnesota Correctional Facility (MCF) – Shakopee. This position ensures a safe, humane environment for incarcerated individuals while maintaining seamless facility security.

• Supervise, plan, direct, coordinate and evaluate facility security.
• Oversee the Watch Office, site security, CIP security, Master Control and Transportation.
• Develop and implement security training for Detail/New Staff/Security Training teams.
• Lead Squad, SORT/SOG/MO/CNT teams, inside/outside grounds security, and Emergency Manual response.
• Manage weapon, camera, and 800 MHz radio communications.
• Coordinate security liaison with other departments and conduct Security Audit Coordination.
• Plan perimeter security and facility expansion strategies.
• Maintain knowledge of gender‑specific correctional practices for the female population.

• Two (2) years or more supervisory experience directing a residential corrections security program/unit.
• Experience in conducting investigations and writing investigation reports.

• Completion of a two‑year degree or higher program.
• Experience with continuous improvement methods such as Lean or Six Sigma.
• Committee and/or project leadership experience.
• Knowledge of fiscal management principles for budget development.
• Training or experience in evidence‑based practices such as cognitive/behavioral programming or motivational interviewing.

The selected finalist may need to complete pre‑placement physical components (tuberculosis screening, commercial driver’s license, drug test, respirator clearance) and sign a Physical Demands Analysis (PDA).

Mandatory background screening, mandatory criminal history check, mandatory reference and mandatory fingerprinting within the first 30 days are required. Disposition of incidents such as sexual harassment will also be reviewed.
