Position: Staff Embedded Firmware Engineer — C/C++, Linux, Hybrid

Position Overview

Entrust is seeking a Staff Firmware Engineer to work within our product development team. This individual will perform the responsibilities outlined below and other duties as assigned. Join a talented and dynamic team of engineers developing systems used to print and personalize credit cards, passports, driver’s licenses, national IDs and more.

Team Description

The Entrust Firmware team plays a key role in bringing this wide range of hardware products to life through use of embedded control of motors, sensors, vision systems, and huge variety of personalization technologies, including smart card chip programming, laser engraving, and printing. The team works closely with other Engineering disciplines as well as cross‑functional teams to ensure our products meet the highest level of security and integrity, all while achieving industry leading levels of performance.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for system firmware design and product architecture of embedded controller systems.
  • Responsible for design/development, coding, testing, debugging, implementation and documentation of embedded firmware components or applications.
  • Developing firmware for digital, analog, RF, power, and motion control systems.
  • Participation in design and code reviews, hardware/software integration and development test.
  • Understand and perform design trade‑offs in a collaborative team environment.
  • Provide schedule input and communicate status to various levels of management, peers and team members.
  • Develop or contribute to development and maintenance of policies, practices and standards.
  • Continuously improve work processes to enable team efficiencies.
  • Resolve product issues through problem evaluation, code modifications, development testing, and coordination with product support team members.
  • Create product enhancements from requirements with an emphasis on system‑wide benefit and risk impact, iterative design, and thorough development testing.
Basic Qualifications
  • 8+ years’ experience with embedded software, hardware and/or firmware in a product development environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Computer Science or equivalent technical degree.
  • Extensive experience (6+ years) with C++ and/or C in an embedded development environment.
  • Experience with embedded Linux, VxWorks or other embedded real time operating system.
  • Experience working with Yocto Project/Open Embedded for Linux system development.
  • Experience with development processes, methodologies, and tools.
  • Experience with revision control systems, e.g. Subversion, Git.
  • Experience with unit and integration test methodologies.
  • Shows strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Displays a high level of initiative and ability to deliver results on technical projects.
  • Exhibits good engineering judgment and decision making.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to prepare written specifications.
  • Must have unrestricted work authorization for US.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science.
  • Experience in Linux kernel development.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas
  • Proficiency using AI tools to assist with code generation, analysis, documentation, and scripting.
  • Ability to work autonomously with cross functional team members.
Location

This role requires five days in the office for the first six months, with the option to transition to a hybrid schedule of three days per week onsite in Minneapolis, MN. Entrust operates with a distributed workforce.

Compensation Range

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $129,650‑$190,153 per year (in the primary posting location). Actual compensation will be determined based on geographic location, education, skills and experience. This position is also eligible for the company’s discretionary annual incentive plan.
